When you just can't sleep

According to Merriam-Webster.com, subjective means ": peculiar to a particular individual : personal ...(2) : modified or affected by personal views, experience, or background ...b : arising from conditions within the brain or sense organs and not directly caused by external stimuli ...c : arising out of or identified by means of one's perception of one's own states and processes..."

In English 251, Fundamental Literary Interpretation, we discussed what the definition of what literature is. Really, there is no definition, because it is subjective to each individual. Everyone has personal experiences have molded them into an individual with different likes and dislikes. Some in my class argued that society has molded them, and that, though everyone within that society believes they are really acting on independent thought, they are all rather similar because of the society that has dictated who the have become.

I know society has shaped me...how could it not? Every one of my preferences is shaped by my society. But sometimes, I like to imagine we are all individuals, free from the inhibitions of society. Unique. But maybe it's just a daydream. What do you think?
